Well over 1000 of the area’s homeless will receive more than a warm meal and safe place to dine this Thanksgiving at St. Vincent de Paul’s Homeless shelter.  The Nick Lowery Foundation’s (www.nicklowery.org) 11th annual Christmas Edition “Champions for the Homeless” takes place Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the 1075 Jackson Street location, just West of the Suns and D-backs stadiums (NOTE: use 15th Avenue entrance off Harrison). 1000 flowers and 1000 gift certificates will be handed out, but most importantly, 1000 people will share a true Christmas with players and over 150 volunteers embracing the simple message that we all are powerful, equal, loved and important, all under the new Champions for the Homeless mural that covers one wall of St Vincent de Paul’s.

Every year, former NFL Stars like former Cardinals Michael Bankston, Ray Perkins, Giants Super Bowl Champion Lionel Manuel, Cowboys Super Bowl Champion Derek Kennard, Raiders All Pro Lincoln Kennedy, Damien Anderson, John Bronson, Mike Davis, All Pro QB David Krieg, All Pro Nick Lowery, Dan Manucci, All Pros JT Smith and Seth Joyner, former #1 pick Andre Wadsworth, Ed Smith, Scott Player and Steve Holden come together as “Champions” and give an extra special HUMAN touch to Christmas. According to Valley resident and Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Famer Nick Lowery, Champions for the Homeless has a simple goal: “To model the unconditional Love and that are the deepest roots of a true community and the core mission of St Vincent De Paul’s. ”

Steve Zabilski, Executive Director of St Vincent de Pauls, said, “We seek to truly support and honor our clients, thousands of Phoenix homeless who have endured particularly hard times the past several years.  This human music is what a community is all about.”

Champions for the Homeless” was founded by the Nick Lowery Youth Foundation (www.NickLoweryFoundation.org), an Arizona 501(c)3 non profit. This is the 8th Thanksgiving for the St. Vincent de Paul’s event.
